The architectural challenge
A panelled reading room with deep colour on the walls. The owner wanted a traditional hearth, but an open flame beside the shelves was out of the question.
02 The specification
A dark hardwood mantel suite with an ornate firebox trim and an ember bed, centred on the panelling and sized to the chimney breast it replaced.
- Unit
- Classic Dark Wood, W 160 cm
- Height
- 110 cm
- Technology
- Electric - plugs into a socket
- Mantel

03 The installation
Set against the wall, levelled to the panelling and fixed back. A single socket, no building work.
04 The result
The room has a hearth again, and the books are safe beside it.
